Red Moon

Leah is a witch, a true born witch, rare thing nowadays. She was kept prisoner in a werewolf controlled facility for years. Now, in her early 20s, she was set free by Caleb and his pack. On the run, they cross paths with Derek and his pack.

Caleb is a young man, freshly turned an alpha by the slaughter of his pack.

"So, let me get this straight. Witches can't outrun or overpower werewolves, they can't heal just as fast or resist serious injuries... What's the advantage?"

"Stiles, a well trained witch doesn't need speed, strenght or agility. Because a full trained witch doesn't fight a werewolf. Or any other creature, for that matter. We control it. Why run when you can make them kneel?"

"Like, for real? You can mind control a wolf?"

"Magic is all about control, Stiles. Some witches are better in controlling the elements. Others, the healers, can control organic functions, enhance them. There are wargs, ready to control animals or humans and even other fantasy creatures and use them as their eyes an ears... Everything is about control. It takes a lot of power to make a werewolf submit, but it becomes easier with practice."

"You did this before? Any of these things?"

"I warged once. Into Caleb." She sighed. "It hurt. He was weak and tired but he was already an Alpha. It was relatively easy to bend his human mind, since he was practically unconscious, but his wolf was a tough one. I never got the hang of it, so I never tried again. It must be easier with animals."

"And the other things?"

She snapped her fingers and a small flame appeared. It quickly spread around her hand and she smiled. "This is easy. For me, I mean. I can speed up healing processes a bit, but generally I'm good at elemental manipulation. I'm learning the other things, but without a covenant, it's more trial and error and this isn't a very quickly way to learn."

"So witches need covenants, then?"

"Kinda. Like werewolves, we're stronger when we belong. And of course, 20 witches backing each other up definitely makes the balance turn to our side." She smiled. "But witches can be strong even alone. There was one so strong that she casted a spell while she was burning and made all vampires in the vicinity wake up and walk to the sunlight. A single witch killed at least fifteen vampires. Can you imagine what she could do with a equally strong covenant?" She looked at Stiles, chin raised and for the first time, the boy really saw her as the powerfull creature she was. "We might not be fast, strong and resistant as werewolves, vampires or even faes. But that's okay because we don't have to be. We don't need to be."

The fire was gone with a flicker of her wrist. Stiles wanted to see more, but it seemed like the opportunity was lost, 'cause Leah started walking back to the Hale house.

"I'd like to see it."

"See what?" But she was smiling, knowing already that he wanted more. Who wouldn't?

"Can you control a werewolf? Not warg into one. Just... control."

"Dominate?" She teased. "I could try, but it's not wise."

"I'm sure they wouldn't mind. I mean, you won't hurt them, you'll just make them walk in circles or something."

Stiles saw a flash of something dangerous in Leah's eyes at his words.

"Your curiosity makes you stupid. I don't think your Alpha will subject his betas to me just to entertain you."

"It's not for entertainment! It's precaution! If they know how this works, maybe they can prepare!"

"Again, your Alpha won't let me use his betas. And I'm not strong enough to take down an alpha. Not yet."

"What about Caleb?"

"Haven't you see his eyes? He's an alpha."

"But all of his pack died when they tried to free you, right? He should be an Omega, he doesn't have a pack."

"You're wrong.
